SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a server and carry out different tasks through a command line. The protocol is employed by many expert users, because the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access can be used for lots of things based on the type of hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the server allows it. When you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for practically anything - you may install software or restart certain services such as the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used largely with UNIX-like Platforms, but there are clients that allow you to use the protocol if your personal computer is using a different Operating System too. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port although a number of service providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Shared Website Hosting
SSH access is available with all shared website hosting which we provide. With some of them, it is featured by default, while with others it's an additional upgrade that you can include with just a few mouse clicks in your web hosting Control Panel. You can get SSH access from the section related to it where you can also find the information you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could select the password that you'll use and, if required, you'll be able to modify it with a few clicks from the same place. All of the commands that may be used with our shared plans are listed inside a help article alongside relevant instances. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you will also be able to upload files through your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is available as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you will be able to include it through the hosting CP if required - even just for the current month. Either way, you could activate and de-activate the feature with just one click via the SSH section of the CP. In the same spot, you will find the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you could type in the password that you would like to use, since it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you can also change it as much as you require. The full list of the commands which can be performed inside a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a number of instances. An extra function after SSH access is allowed will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this sort of connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
You shall be able to use SSH to handle your content irrespective of which VPS servers you pick when you sign up, because all our plans offer this feature as standard. You won't have to include or allow anything by hand - immediately after your web server is ready and you get the Welcome e-mail with the login info, you'll be able to connect and start working on your sites or any software that you would like to install and run on the machine. You will have root-level access to the VPS and since the account shall be isolated from all the other accounts in the physical hosting server, you shall be able to do anything you'd like without any restrictions. You could install any app you need and which shall run on a Linux-based hosting server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases quickly and easily.
